Our Starlink installation subject matter experts recently received a service request from a customer in Lewiston, ID, seeking professional service for a residential Starlink setup.
To kick off the process, our team conducted an Initial Offsite Assessment. This included analyzing satellite imagery of the property, requesting on-site photographs, and evaluating the roof type and potential obstructions. This critical step ensures we accurately determine the materials, equipment, and workforce for a hassle-free installation.

- There is currently a satellite dish installed, but it will eventually be removed and replaced with the Starlink system at the same location.

After the initial offsite assessment, we received the customer’s approval on the job order and arranged the installation schedule with our Starlink installers in Lewiston, ID.

The SOW (scope of work):
- Install a Starlink standard kit using pivot mount
- Activate & set up the Starlink Gen3 WiFi mesh routers
- Orient the customer on how to use the Starlink App
- Test and document the installations with photos
Our Starlink installation experts came as scheduled and conducted multiple Obstructions Tests on the Starlink app. This test is essential in determining where the dish is placed for an unobstructed, powerful, and strong connection to the Starlink satellite network.
The “Good experience” result indicates that this place was suitable for uninterrupted streaming, browsing, video calls, and gaming. This evaluation ensured that the selected location would provide excellent connectivity and performance for the Starlink network.
We planned the cable route to avoid damaging it with environmental hazards and protect it for extended use. We used a Cable Routing Kit to safely lay the proprietary Starlink cable from the outdoor dish to the indoor Gen 3 WiFi Mesh Router.
The Starlink dish was then installed using a pivot mount, a flexible and durable installation solution to position the dish for optimal signal reception. It ensured that the dish received an unobstructed line of sight to the satellites.
We then configured the Gen 3 WiFi Mesh Router through the Starlink app for the customer using their preferred SSID and password. We also introduced the customer to the app’s features, such as how one can access and view their SSID, reset a forgotten password, run speed tests, refresh or reset the network, and answer other inquiries they may have.
After the installation and configuration, our team conducted the Starlink Alignment Test to ensure that the dish was aligned precisely for maximum satellite connectivity. This involved fine-tuning the alignment to ensure no obstructions to the view of the sky, thereby maximizing signal strength and system performance.
To wrap up the installation, we ran advanced Starlink Speed Tests about 20 minutes after setup to gauge the internet connection quality. Although the short-term results were good, we let the customer know that Starlink can take up to 12 hours to synchronize for peak performance fully.
