Starlink Initial Offsite Assessment

Pro Starlink Installers trained and dedicated Professional Services Managers – Starlink installation SME‘s received the Starlink installation service request and immediately performed an Initial Offsite Assessment. Based on satellite map views, street views and customer supplied photos and information communicated via phone & email, it was determined that a long pole mount in the yard close to the home or possibly out back or high up ono the rooftop would offer the best options for clear signal as the building structure is surrounded by tall trees that can block signals.

FYI: we tried multiple Obstructions Tests where the old dish is located (seen below), and at that location but even higher up (to perhaps extend the existing pole once removed the old dish), but the Obstructions Tests ALL failed miserably. The thing about Starlink dish installation is you can always go higher as literally the sky is the limit.

This would require trenching and using PVC or other conduit to run the Starlink cable from the building to the long pole where it would be mounted on a 10′ galvanized pole attached to the Standard Pipe Adapter mount:

Since the house and outdoor desired coverage area was also over 4500 sqft, we recommend that the customer purchase TWO additional Starlink Gen3 WiFi Mesh Routers, a Standard Pipe Adapter Mount, and a 45 meter (147ft) Starlink proprietary cable from the Starlink Shop (shop.starlink.com).

At the scheduled time, our Starlink installer arrived onsite and performed the multiple obstruction test to spot the best location for installing the Starlink.

In fact, we were even going to put a 6′ pole extension attached to the ridgeline mount to heighten the Starlink dish, but our customer was (and we were) concerned with the high winds that NorCal experiences a regular basis, so the decision was made not to use the pole extension on top of the ridgeline mount.

This location had the least obstructions and a clear a fairly clear view of the sky. The customer also stated he planned to cut back the surrounding trees as well. This setup provides better connectivity by reducing potential interference from the trees and other obstructions.

Our professional Starlink installers routed the 45 meter Starlink cable from the roof outdoors to the indoor primary Starlink Gen3 WiFi Mesh Router, and sealed the cable entry point and used a cable drip loop to ensure water doesn’t drain from the cable into the entryway.
