Connecting Starlink to the People of Planet Earth
Throughout northern Indiana, accessing high-speed broadband internet can be challenging, with limited access to infrastructure and Internet service providers (ISPs). In today’s digital age, people need access to online resources for school, work/business, healthcare, travel, and general communications. This is why Starlink LEO Satellite broadband internet is key to bridging the digital divide by providing reliable, high-speed, low-latency broadband internet almost anywhere on Earth.
To ensure residents of greater South-Southwestern Chicagoland and Northern Indiana get the most out of their Starlink, we educate customers and the general public by helping navigate the confusing and sometimes frustrating Starlink ordering and installation process. From initial Starlink research to understanding all the moving parts that go into a professional Starlink installation, we handle every detail to achieve our goal of delivering a pleasant and successful professional Starlink installation experience.
Our Starlink installation in Hammond, IN, was coordinated with our local engineer while he was completing another installation nearby in Demotte, IN.
After gathering some initial information to kickstart the Initial Offsite Assessment and determine whether an onsite Starlink Site Survey would be necessary. We capture every detail we can off the web and work with the customer to sometimes provide photos and explain other factors that they know as owners (beware of HOAs).
After conducting a detailed Initial Offsite Assessment by using multiple views and owner-provided information and multiple views like the following, we either provide a quote or suggest a site survey to ensure our quote and installation are optimal:
After a thorough assessment of the Starlink Installation SOW (Scope of Work), our Starlink installers in De Motte, IN, met the customer and performed the following:
1. Starlink Obstruction Tests: to identify the actual installation point where “Good experience” rating can be achieved. Using the Starlink App, we run multiple Obstruction Tests to ensure the optimal installation spot while considering height, dish orientation, Starlink (proprietary) cable length, and cable path.
2. Starlink Dish Installation and Starlink Cable Routing
We used a customer-provided Pivot Mount to secure the Starlink dish/antenna. Then, routed the proprietary Starlink 50′ cable (that comes in the Standard model installation kit) from the dish to the indoor Starlink Wi-Fi Mesh Router location, making sure it was secure and sealed with silicone or fire caulk where it passed through the wall.
We used a Masonry Routing Kit to secure the Starlink cable outdoor/indoor pass-through with drip-loop installation. This is to prevent water from following the cable into the house and secure the cable with cable tacks and grommets.
3. Starlink WiFi Mesh Router Setup
Connect the Starlink cable to the Starlink WiFi mesh router. Connect the power adapter and power up. Using the Starlink App on the customer’s phone, configure the Starlink router with the customer’s preferred network name (SSID) and password. We provided a customer’s walkthrough on how to navigate the Starlink app functionality.
4. Dish Alignment Test and Manual Adjustment
Verify alignment using the Starlink App. Adjust the Starlink dish manually if needed to minimize obstructions and maximize signal reception to the satellite network. There are two models have motorized dish orientation: Standard Actuated and Performance (Gen 1).
5. Internet Connection Speed Test
After equipment installation and configuration, we performed Starlink speed test to check internet connection quality.
We achieved 258 Mbps download speed, 12.6 Mbps upload speed and 27 ms latency. This performance is suitable for various online productivity tasks for remote work. It is important to note that optimal connection usually achieved up to 12 hours.
