A sidebar: extreme weather and Starlink

Setting up the Starlink can be challenging in unpredictable weather conditions. It is especially tough on slippery rooftops or elevated areas with obstacles and other hazards. For our first planned visit it was hailing in Show Low, yup, it hails more than one might think in AZ. Needless to say, we rescheduled and went back and got it done! More on that below.

Starlink can melt snow! Yes, you read it right. The Snow Melt feature is accessible through the Starlink App for Android & for Mac/iPhone:
Starlink app > Navigate to Settings > Starlink > Snow Melt > Select the preferred mode
and your Starlink dish will actually heat up to keep ice off the Starlink dish and prevent service degradation during the winter season. Still, we recommend leaving your Snow Melt settings to AUTO and installing your Starlink in a place that minimizes snow accumulation for optimal performance.

Starlink Installation

Finally, our professional Starlink installer was scheduled to arrive once the storm passed for the Starlink installation.

This installation’s SOW (scope of work) was a Starlink STANDARD model with a Short Wall Mount (now called the Standard Wall Mount):

that the customer has purchased with their initial Starlink Standard Installation Kit directly through Starlink.com. It was our shared opinion after our initial offsite assessment that the 15m (approx. 50ft) Starlink proprietary cable would work. This cable is that which comes in the Starlink Standard Installation Kit, see below image, What’s In The Box?

At the scheduled time, our expert Starlink installer arrived onsite and performed, took inventory and then proceeded to run multiple Obstruction Test using the Starlink App to identify the best location for installing the Starlink.

The Starlink dish was installed at an optimal point on the fascia, and the Starlink cable was run and passed through to the house with the customer’s approval.

Finally, using the Starlink App the Starlink Alignment and Starlink Speed Test is done to measure the performance of the Starlink connection by providing key metrics like download speed, upload speed, and latency. And look what we’ve got!
